Never just a website

Alpha Acoustics operates in the acoustics and audio-solutions space, where buying decisions are long, technically informed and driven by a fairly specific set of decision-makers. That meant the brief was never simply ‘a website’ — it was to understand the market first, and then build the assets that understanding pointed to.

We began with the research: a structured competitive analysis of who else was addressing the same market and how they positioned themselves, followed by user and audience research to establish who the genuine buyers were, what they were actually looking for, what they were willing to pay, and which segments were worth pursuing.

That work fed two deliverables. The first, a website built to speak to those identified buyer profiles rather than to a generic visitor. The second, a complete online profile and market-intelligence dashboard that turns the research into something the team can actually use.

Two things came out of one body of research — a website that speaks to real buyers, and a dashboard that shows the team exactly where the demand sits.

02

A long, informed sale

In acoustics, nobody buys on impulse. The decisions are considered, technically informed and made by a narrow set of people — so a site that speaks to everyone speaks to no one. The first challenge was simply knowing, with confidence, who the real buyers were and what actually moved them.

Positioning was the harder question underneath. With a specific, expert audience, generic messaging is worse than useless — it signals that you don’t understand the work. The website had to talk to defined buyer profiles in their own terms, which is impossible until you have done the research to know what those profiles are.

And decisions about where to spend — which segments to chase, what to charge, how to pitch — were being made on instinct. The client needed a way to see the market clearly and argue those calls from evidence, not from a hunch. A single website was never going to answer that.

03

Research comes first

We led with the research and let it shape everything after it. The competitive analysis mapped how rival players addressed the same market and where the gaps were; the audience research established who the buyers genuinely were, what they wanted, what they would pay, and which segments were worth the effort versus which were quietly draining it.

Only then did we design — the website to speak to the profiles the research had defined, and the dashboard to present the same findings as a usable tool. The principles that held it together:

  • Understand the market before designing anything
  • Competitive analysis to find the real gaps
  • Audience research into who buys, why, and at what price
  • A website written for defined buyer profiles, not a generic visitor
  • Research presented as a live tool, not a slide deck
  • Every recommendation traceable back to evidence
04

A site and a dashboard

The first deliverable is a website built to speak to Alpha’s identified buyer profiles — structured and written around what those specific decision-makers are looking for, so the brand reads as one that genuinely understands its market.

The second is a complete online profile and market-intelligence dashboard that presents the research as something usable: audience segments, purchase intent, pricing expectations, competitor positioning and forward-looking opportunity areas, laid out so stakeholders can see where the demand sits and where it does not. Together:

  • A structured competitive analysis of the market
  • Audience and user research into real buyer profiles
  • A website that speaks directly to those profiles
  • A market-intelligence dashboard of segments and intent
  • Pricing expectations and competitor positioning, mapped
  • Forward-looking opportunity areas to guide spend
05

Argued from evidence

The result is that Alpha Acoustics now makes its market decisions from evidence rather than instinct. Future project proposals and marketing spend are argued from a clear picture of who the buyers are, what they will pay and where the opportunity lies. What the client holds:

  • A clear, researched view of who the real buyers are
  • A website that speaks to those buyers in their own terms
  • A dashboard mapping demand, pricing and competitor positioning
  • Opportunity areas identified to direct future spend
  • Proposals and marketing argued from evidence, not instinct
  • A living research asset the team can keep returning to
06

From instinct to evidence

Alpha Acoustics set out needing more than a website, and the engagement delivered exactly that: a research base, a site built on it, and a dashboard that keeps the findings alive. The market it sells into is now something the team can see clearly rather than guess at.

Because both deliverables come from the same body of research, they stay in step. The website speaks to the buyers the data identified, and the dashboard explains why those buyers matter and where the next ones will come from.

Most importantly, the way the business makes decisions has changed. Where to invest, what to charge, which segments to pursue — these are now argued from evidence. That shift, from instinct to evidence, is the real deliverable.

Don't take our word for it - take theirs

Externo started with the research, not the design - and that changed everything. We finally know who our buyers really are and what they'll pay, and the dashboard lets us see the whole market at a glance. Every proposal and every marketing decision is now argued from evidence instead of instinct.
